Growl is the de-facto standard for Mac visual notifications. You'll need to install it separately: it's a simple install and a lot of other mac software is Growl enabled. Highly recommended.
You can check if your Growl installation is ok with the "Check Growl Installation" button. Green light is ok, Yellow light means is installed but not running, Red light means it's not installed: you can hover on the button for a textual description
Remember that you can use some variables/placeholders in your notification texts!
